The Nemunas powerfully captures the Neris,
Veiling the distance with the swirls of its currents,
Carrying, embracing, like an enchanting lure,
It resonates with the depths of the sea, both itself and her.

The confluence of the Nemunas and Neris rivers is an exceptional historical and geographical heritage of Kaunas city, one of the most poetic, mystical, and highly sung places in Kaunas, traditionally considered sacred. The city’s history began at this confluence. Water is a significant life element, possessing not only a biological but also a mythological and sacred hue. The ritual significance of water is known in almost all cultures. In Baltic culture, ceremonies and rituals related to water emphasize its healing, spiritual development, and physical well-being properties. From ancient traditions, the symbolism of water in baptismal rituals was adopted by Christianity. Water is associated with renewal, cyclical nature, and bathing is perceived as a sacred baptism, a purification. In Lithuanian worldview, water is mentioned in folk songs, legends, associated with rituals, customs, and calendar celebrations. In these contexts, water is vitally and sacramentally connected to human life. In all rituals and holiday customs, water is revered and imbued with sacred power.
The proposed river observation trail, as a symbolic journey into the water, allows for purification, experiencing the sanctity of water/nature’s powers. The mystified location gains symbolism of concentration, tranquility, and peace. Taking into account the current situation of the Nemunas and Neris confluence and the need for the use of the location, the object is created not only as a sculpture in the traditional sense but as a part of the landscape, both architecturally and ideologically, with a functional basis. The object is designed as an extension of the Nemunas and Neris river confluence, cutting into the projected extended rectangular volume. The volume descends into the water, not rising above the water level. Everything happens within the “inside” of the water, “introducing” visitors into the embrace of the two rivers.

Nemuno ir Neries santaka – išskirtinis Kauno miesto istorinis ir geografinis paveldas, viena poetiškiausių, mistiškiausių ir labiausiai apdainuotų Kauno vietų, senovėje laikyta šventa. Santakoje prasidėjo miesto istorija. Vanduo – svarbus gyvybės elementas, turintis ne tik biologinį, bet ir mitologinį, sakralinį atspalvį. Vandens apeiginė reikšmė yra žinoma beveik visose kultūrose. Baltų kultūroje apeigos, ritualai susiję su vandeniu pabrėžia jo gydomąsias, dvasinio tobulėjimo ir fizinio pasveikimo savybes. Iš senų tradicijų vandens simbolizmą su krikšto ritualu perėmė ir krikščionybė. Vanduo – siejamas su atsinaujinimu, cikliškumu, o nusiprausimas suvokiamas tarsi šventas krikštas, apsivalymas. Vanduo lietuvių pasaulėžiūroje minimas liaudies dainose, sakmėse, siejamas su apeigomis, ritualais, kalendorinėmis šventėmis. Šiomis prasmėmis vanduo – gyvybiškai ir sakrališkai susijęs su žmogumi. Visose apeigose ir švenčių papročiuose vanduo gerbiamas ir įprasminamas kaip šventa galia.
Projektuojamas upių apžvalgos takas tarsi simbolinis ėjimas į vandenį leidžia apsivalyti, patirti vandens / gamtos galių šventumą. Mistifikuojama vieta įgauna susikaupimo, ramybės, taikos simboliką. Atsižvelgiant į esamą Nemuno ir Nėries santakos situaciją bei vietos naudojimo poreikį kuriamas objektas – apžvalgos takas nėra suvokiamas tik kaip skulptūra tradicine prasme. Tai landšafto dalis, architekūriškai ir idėjiškai įsikomponuojanti esamoje aplinkoje, turinti funkcionalų pagrindą. Objektas projektuojamas kaip Nemuno ir Neries upių santakos iškyšulio tęsinys, įkertant į jį projektuojamą ištęstą stačiakampį tūrį. Tūris toldamas gilyn į vandenį žemėja, tokiu būdu nepakildamas virš vandens lygio. Viskas vyksta vandens ,,viduje”, ,,įleidžiant” lankytojus į dviejų upių apsuptį.
